How to Volunteer

There are many opportunities to get involved as a volunteer: PTA special events planning, in-school programs, after-school programs, as well as helping out on the day of events.

For jobs that require you to working with students during school hours, special clearance is required by the Sunnyvale School District. If you have previously been cleared and do not require a new TB assessment, clearance takes only minutes.

1. Well in advance of your volunteer date, you need to register a volunteer form online. Here is the new registration form.
2. For in-school volunteering during school hours, TB clearance is required. Proof of TB clearance (negative test or assessment questionnaire signed by Physician)  must be uploaded to complete and submit this form (test results are good for 4 years so keep a copy to submit in future years). Note: Free TB testing on 10/27/2023(Fri) from 4 PM to 7 PM in Cherry Chase.
3. If you will be alone with students at any point (such as field trip chaperone or after school program) you must have been fingerprinted for our school district. Print out our district’s Live Scan Volunteer Request form and take it to any Live Scan service provider. Fee applies. Check with school for any reduced rate opportunities. Note: Free Live Scan on 10/27/2023(Fri) from 4 PM to 7 PM in Cherry Chase.
4. Check with your program contact or the teacher you’re helping before volunteer date. Show up on time. Have fun.
5. Log how many hours you volunteer, to report at year-end.
