What is STEAM

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math and it incorporates elements of two or more of these areas in hands-on activities instead of focusing on each subject separately.  These activities spark curiosity and encourage further investigation and experimentation.  STEAM teaches important life skills like critical thinking and problem-solving.  You may have heard of STEM, STEAM adds Art into the mix, since all the areas of STEM require a creative and design-focused mentality and often have elements of art incorporated into the real world applications. The addition of arts also welcomes every kind of learner.

Why STEAM

STEAM education encourages learning and problem solving through hands-on, guided inquiry, activities and exploration.  STEAM education encourages investigation, critical thinking, creativity and innovation.

A cross-disciplinary or interdisciplinary approach to learning will create kids and adults that:

  • Question like a Scientist
  • Design like a Technologist
  • Build like an Engineer
  • Create like an Artist
  • Deduce like a Mathematician

– and play like a kid!
